Makinde–Atiku ADC Alliance Rumours Surface After Fayose’s Claims Ahead of 2027

Fresh political speculation has emerged ahead of the 2027 general elections following claims by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, regarding an alleged meeting between Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

Fayose alleged that the two political figures held a private meeting in Minna, Niger State, to discuss a possible alliance within the African Democratic Congress (ADC). According to him, the conversation reportedly touched on the prospect of Makinde joining the ADC and emerging as Atiku’s running mate should the former vice president secure the party’s presidential ticket.

In his account, Fayose claimed that the meeting involved strategic discussions around the ADC’s structure, internal arrangements, and the political outlook for 2027. He further alleged that Makinde indicated a willingness to provide significant financial support to help reposition the party, subject to agreements reached during the talks.

Fayose also suggested that considerations were made regarding delegate strength from the South-West and South-South regions, as well as broader electoral calculations ahead of both the party primaries and the general election.

The former governor alleged that Atiku is confident about clinching the ADC presidential ticket, citing internal party dynamics, including zoning considerations. He claimed that the issue of regional balance and electoral advantage featured prominently in the discussion.

According to Fayose, the choice of venue and participants for the meeting was deliberate to ensure privacy and build confidence among those involved. He added that a follow-up meeting may take place outside Nigeria in the coming weeks.
